Detox your Hair

It’s a new year, which means it is the perfect time to breathe some life into your hair after all the styling it has endured over the holiday season and the past year. We have put together tips to follow to restore damaged hair and get your locks feeling strong, silky and soft.

RESTORE DAMAGED HAIR: THE CHOP

If your hair is feeling damaged and you are noticing split ends, the first thing to do is book in a haircut with your stylist. Having a cut will remove spilt ends, restore body into your hair and leave it looking healthier. It might not be necessary to opt for a short cut to restore your hair, ask for a trim and restore the remaining hair with nourishing hair treatments. However, if you want to remove all damage in one go, take the plunge with a pixie cut!

RESTORE DAMAGED HAIR: TREATMENTS

Now that you have cut your hair, it is time to care for it! Deep conditioning treatments replenish and rejuvenate dry, brittle, coloured and damaged hair. Live True London salons stock Redken and Pureology spa treatments to add moisture back to your hair.
To strengthen hair from the inside out, Olaplex is the answer! Olaplex repairs broken bonds within the hair to nourish and restore hair that has been severely damaged. Hair is stronger, softer, shinier and healthier. It also allows hair colourists to experiment with hair colour without damaging the hair! Want to go from copper hair to creamy pastel pink hair and back? This is possible with Olaplex!
Hair is usually more damaged towards the tip as it has been subjected to more styling and processing. It is essential that you add treatments from the ears down, to target your damaged areas.

RESTORE DAMAGED HAIR: LIMITED USE OF STYLING TOOLS

While you are caring for your hair with weekly treatments, it is important that you take a break from using heated styling tools. This includes straighteners, curlers and hair dryers. Where possible airdry your hair, where this is impossible (especially in the winter months) dry your hair on the lowest heat setting. It is essential to apply a leave in conditioner followed by a heat-protectant when you do this, and going forward once your hair is in better condition, to prevent future damage. We recommend Redken Iron Shape thermal spray.

RESTORE DAMAGED HAIR: RESTORATIVE SHAMPOO AND CONDITIONER

It is essential to add a restorative shampoo and conditioner to your hair regime! We love Redken Extreme! This range gives damaged hair the strength it needs to help prevent hair breakage and damage by infusing the hair with proteins. This shampoo is also colour safe, so you don’t need to worry about it stripping out your new balayage.
Wash and condition your hair with lukewarm water, as hot water can damage your hair. End off your shampoo process with cold water as this closes the hair follicle and results in flatter and smoother hair! Remember to also limit the number of times a week you wash your hair, as it strips the hair of its natural oils. We suggest washing your hair twice a week and using dry shampoo for those in-between days.

RESTORE DAMAGED HAIR: MAINTAIN GOOD HEALTH

Make sure you are drinking 8 glasses of water a day and eat a balanced nutritious diet. Remember what you eat, and drink means it effects your overall health, including that of your hair! Eat lean meats and vegetables including salmon, kale, spinach, avocados and nuts. For hair that is severely damaged, ask your pharmacist what additional supplements you can take to restore your hair’s health!
