Hair Trends from London Fashion Week

The catwalks at London Fashion Week AW17 were dominated by glossy healthy looking hair with natural waves and movements. Designers opted for simple hairstyles to highlight their romantic looks or to contrast dramatic make-up trends.

THE POWER PONYTAIL

From damp, textured, low ponytails at Pringle of Scotland; low, smooth, and sleek ponytails at Erdem; to deeply sided parted hair gathered into a low ponytail at J.W. Anderson – the ponytail was a major trend on the catwalks of LFW AW17.
No matter what the style, the placement was the same – it’s all about the low ponytail. If you want to add style to this classic look add a romantic black ribbon as seen on the models at Tory Burch; secure your low ponytail with dramatic clips like Jasper Conran; or add texture to the hair with double elastics at Emilio de la Morena.

SLICKED BACK LOOK

Models on the runway at Emilia Wickstead showcased slicked back styles where the front section of hair was pulled back and secured with hair spray. Runways at Teatum Jones, Ports and Mulberry highlighted the models facial features with swept back looks with hair placed behind the ear.

THE MIDDLE PARTING

The middle parting is making a comeback this season! This look was seen on models at Erdem with a sleek low ponytail; models at Mary Katrantzou with hair pulled behind the ear; left natural with free movement at Bora Aksu; and blow dried to glossy perfection at Topshop.

NATURAL HAIR

It’s all about natural hair and working with what you have! Ryan Lo, Roksanda, Peter Pilotto and Osman minimally styled their models locks, working with the hair’s natural texture after being left to dry naturally.

At Christopher Kane, Guido Palau washed every model’s hair with Redken Diamond Oil Shampoo and Conditioner to see what their natural texture was. “If it was too curly, we smoothed the top layer and if it was too straight, we added a wave,” said Palau.
