Winter Hair Care – How To Look After Your Hair During Winter

Winter can be damaging to your hair – just as you can suffer from dry and damaged skin, your hair can dry out and become damaged too! Wind, dry air and use of central heating can all cause hair to become dry and brittle. But what can we do to stop this?
Winter Hair Care Tip 1: Reduce shampooing
Winter is the time to invest in a good dry shampoo! Washing your hair too often can strip it of its natural oils and cause it to become dryer, and thus more brittle and prone to breakage. Try washing your hair twice a week or if you have an oily scalp, invest in a more moisturising shampoo. Always make sure to condition your hair thoroughly as well!
Winter Hair Care Tip 2: Don’t shower too hot
Although it can be tempting to jump in a hot shower on a cold day, hot water can cause damage and leave your hair in need of moisture! Turn the dial down to a lukewarm temperature while rinsing or washing the hair.
Winter Hair Care Tip 3: Avoid heat styling
Most people know that regular blow drying and heat styling can cause heat damage to hair. The best method is to allow your hair to air dry, but if you don’t have time to do this or it’s too cold, make sure to use a good heat protectant spray and apply some leave in conditioner.
Winter Hair Care Tip 4: Hydrate your hair with weekly treatments
Invest in a good hydrating treatment for your hair and apply once a week for 30 minutes to ensure your hair is fully saturated.
Winter Hair Care Tip 5: Cover your hair outside
The wind and other elements can cause your hair to become knotty and tangled which can cause even more breakage! Make sure to cover your hair with a hat or tie it up – we love silk or satin lined hats and scrunchies to keep your hair frizz free and healthy.
Winter Hair Care Tip 6: Use a humidifier
If dry air from central heating is an issue in your house, using a humidifier can help bring some moisture back into the air! This will not only help your hair but can also have other benefits for your skin and general health.
Winter Hair Care Tip 7: Don’t leave the house with wet hair
Wet hair is more prone to damage than dry hair, so make sure your hair is fully dry before leaving the house! If you need to use a hair dryer, make sure to use heat protectant and try to let your hair air dry as much as possible before use to minimise the amount of heat needed.
Winter Hair Care Tip 8: Book a rejuvenating session
Finally, why not book in a session to give your hair some TLC? Getting a simple trim can help you manage split ends and adding FUL’s Intense Moisture Hair Mask or an Olaplex treatment can help repair damage, leaving your hair sleek and glossy! Book your appointment now.
